First Day (2)

Lumi headed to the dorms as per Tia’s orders

“Room 29… Room 29..” Lumi kept repeating it whilst looking at the doors until she found a door with no number on it “I looked everywhere and the rooms aren’t arranged properly so I guess that one is it” Lumi said before she knocked and opened the door.

Upon entering she found a girl in the room sitting so casually as if her unit wasn’t training outside.

“Ah, another unfortunate person. Yes this is room 29 if you’re wondering. Welcome and close the door behind you”

The person talking was a red-head with orange reddish eyes. She wasn’t very short. Her hair was straight and it was a little taller than average. She had a lollipop in her hand that was just in its wrapper. From the look in her eyes she seemed uninterested in the person in front of her almost like she’s in a world of her own

Lumi shrugged it off and went straight into introductions “Nice to meet you my name is–” before she could continue, she got interrupted by the girl

“Don’t bother with introductions they’re worthless just call me reaper”

‘Reaper ? what does she mean by that–‘ Lumi thought to herself as Reaper starred at her

“Don’t think too much about the name. You’ll only leave the room once you know of the name choice”

Lumi fixed her posture to compose herself, then she noticed the squadron leader badge. “Commander Reaper I should at least give you a codename to call me by.. please call me wanderer”

Reaper unwrapped her lollipop and put it in her mouth looking away from Lumi “Tsk. Whatever you’re going to be the next one on the death count anyways.”

Lumi tried not to give it much thought and got her things tidied up and in place. By the time she finished it was dinner time, which she used to meet up with Tia.

“How are the dorms, Kiddo”

“Very comfortable, General”

Tia frowned and laid back in her chair, Disappointed with Lumi’s formal speech “Tsk. Yer no fun aye. Drop the titles already would ya?”

Lumi looked confused but tried to diverge from formal speech “T-Tia, I wanted to ask about my roommate”

Tia looked at Lumi with a nonchalant expression, clearly not surprised by her question “The Reaper aye ? Gotta tell ya that, She do be pretty cold. Even the damn winter in wintervale ain’t no match for her coldness, But she’s a good lass with a pure heart. Ya gotta do whatcha gotta do to protect yerself. I’ll submit a room change order for ya if ya want”

Lumi raised her eyebrows and her eyes widened a little after hearing Tia. She never said she’s upset with her roommate or anything.

Tia followed up that puzzled look with answers “Reaper’s name is Charlotte. When she first enrolled into this unit, she was assigned room 29. Her roommate was a great lad. Everyone loved him around the unit. One day while we were out fighting on the border, He pushed her outta danger before getting fatally injured. His last words were like a curse on her ‘You’re such a bright and wonderful kid, Charlotte.’ She cried and mourned him for days. Ay’m harsh but ay ain’t no villain Ay gave her as much time as she wanted. Someone new was assigned to her room. She did everythin to protect that person but they shortly died. Then the next. And then the next. 20 of the best men died in fron of her. People around the unit started calling her The reaper for that. That’s why ya saw em doin 100 pushups when ya came this mornin. They called her reaper when they knew she was goin to be assigned a new roommate.”

Lumi was in shock. The look on her face isn’t that of someone scared but someone who’s feeling sorry. Her eye brows lowered and she looked completely uncomfortable. Then with a determined look on her face with a voice filled with courage

“Leave it to me, General. I’ll make sure I survive”

Tia sighed again at the formal speech coming back but smiled “Ay’ll leave it to ya, Lumi”

Later that evening Lumi pretended to go to sleep and waited for the right moment. Charlotte, who was sleeping, Woke up suddenly and went to look outside the window of their room.

Lumi took this chance as the perfect time to do what she has to do “I promise you. I’ll survive until the end, Charlotte”

Charlotte looked at her in shock yet in doubt. Her face rested a little getting a nostalgic feeling in her heart. She shrugged it off as another death wish of those who were once with her before she went back to her bed.

The next morning came with bad news on the horizon.

“Everyone into their fuckin position move yer arses!” Tia yelled loudly with the unit in disarray.

“Monster invasion ?”

“Ah.. We gotta send them back to their damn nests”

While Lumi got into position she looked at Charlotte who was caressing her scythe nostalgic yet ready to battle.
