It took a few days for Yuuji to recover well enough after his injury. It wasn’t bad, but he needed to be monitored in the hospital under the guidance of the doctor there.
“But I sure didn’t expect elves to exist in this world.”
Yuuji thought out loud whilst walking next to Amilia.
The Senior doctor, who was in charge of The Royal Hospital, had long ears. Although he was short and had a long beard, he was not a dwarf like you’d assume.
In fact, when Yuuji was about to assume that the doctor was an elf the doctor cut him out with a “I’m indeed an elf.”
“There’s many species in this world, Yuuji” Amilia paused and raised her hand as if to start counting. “There are Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Beastmen, and Dragons.”
Amilia started raising each finger while counting, she used her other free hand to point at her pinkie finger at which the dragons were mentioned and continued
“Though, Dragonfolk did go extinct approximately 100 years ago. They were one of the longest living species in the world next to the dwarves”
“But aren’t elves usually the ones with the longest lifespan?” Yuuji tilted his head quizzically at Amilia’s explanation.
In all fairness to Yuuji from what he usually read, elves always had the longest life spans next to dragons. However Amilia shook her head which instantly told him that it wasn’t the case.
“Elves live as long as humans do.” She paused for a moment “Elves developed from humans who lived in the jungles across the northern continent”
Upon receiving that information, Yuuji was even more puzzled at this world’s system and how different species work and interact. The difference in species felt to him that it’s only in appearance only. However before he could drop the topic, Amilia raised the same hand she was counting with in a pointing motion and started explaining further.
“The difference between the species is not by looks or life spans only. Mana consumption, Mana pools, Physical strength, and even spells, all of them are linked to what species you are.”
Amilia took in a deep breath before continuing what looked to Yuuji as a biology lecture from highschool. Although he looked less than enthusiastic to hear it, Amilia continued it without a pause.
“Beastmen have higher physical strength and better abilities at hand to hand combat.”
“Doesn’t that mean that Boryana is really strong in fact?” Yuuji interrupted as he once again tilted his head.
“Boryana is only half a beast, her mother is human.”
To these words, Yuuji nodded confidently showing he had understood some of the concept of that.
‘Man, seems like boring everyday crap in every iseka–’
What cut Yuuji’s thought was none other than Amilia whose words fell on him like thunder.
“Elves have less mana pools and poor consumption, unless for rare cases where your consumption is just decently efficient”
Yuuji’s shock originated from the fact that he’s used to elves having higher mana pools and better spells than all other species, at least in mangas he read.
“They are mostly belittled as a weak species due to that but they have settled in outskirts of kingdoms like Wintervale and Aetherland. Oh looks like we’re home”
Amilia and Yuuji halted their walk at the sight of a sign with Amilia’s name on it.
After going inside the house, Yuuji rested his back on the couch they had in the living room. It wasn’t the most comfortable couch and he has already experienced how bad it felt sleeping on it but nonetheless it worked for now. Though he thought of maybe introducing using feather or cotton as a way of making pillows and furniture more comfortable, he put it off for the time being.
“Alright Yuuji.” Amilia called out to grab his attention.
“Please wave your hand in an upward motion”
Yuuji narrowed his eyes at Amilia’s request. With a nod from Amilia, he followed her request.
“Woah…”
Yuuji’s astonishment left him utterly speechless. What appeared in front of him was something out of one of those RPG or MMO games that he used to play in his free time. A massive blue screen popped up with everything he had so far; kills, level, Weapon of choice, full name, age, even blood type.
“Amazing isn’t it?” Amilia smiled warmly at the speechless Yuuji who in return nodded his head fast.
“This is so much like an RPG game like those games with impossible bosses and a difficult leveling system!”
Amilia tilted her head in puzzlement and her face was in that of a frown. “ar be gee?”
“Ahhh, don’t mind it, don’t mind it.” Yuuji shook his hand dismissively at Amilia’s confusion.
With a sigh Amilia closed her eyes as it felt like Yuuji was in his own world at that point.
“For now, let’s go and grab that sword we left at the armory.”
—----------------------------------------------
“It sure is lively in the afternoon..” Yuuji thought out loud as they started heading to the armory. “Reminds me of Akihabara in a way.”
While Akihabara was a fair distance away from Yuuji’s house, he did go there once or twice, maybe more to get figures or manga on its release. He was not expecting a kingdom in the old ages to have the same crowdedness as Akihabara did, and of course it didn’t, but it felt as so.
The market place was bustling with noise, a lot of women out grabbing food, probably for a celebratory feast as their kingdom was safe and sound.
It didn’t take long before they arrived at the armory. In fact Yuuji was so lost in thought that Amilia had to grab him by the collar.
A loud ring rang through the room as they both entered the armory, for the second time in a few days.
“Back so soon aye?” Sam greeted them with a laugh.
“We’re back?” Yuuji put on a wry smile at Sam’s gesture.
Amilia waved her hand and Sam who was behind his counter and he ended up smiling even more than he already was.
“My dear little Amilia, How can I help you today?” Sam said enthusiastically while patting Amilia’s head
Amilia gently tapped on his hand asking him to remove it from on top of her head, afterwards she politely asked
“The sword I asked you for last time”
Sam crouched to grab something from underneath his counter, a few moments later he stood up once again with a sword in hand this time.
A shiny steel sword was present. The handle looked to be of high quality leather and was dyed in blue. It looked a little longer than the one he was handed by the guards earlier at the confrontation.
“Thank you, Mr Sam” Yuuji bowed politely
“Don’t sweat it kiddo.. Besides, There’s still a payment that I’m waiting for.” Sam waved his hand at Yuuji and instantly after he looked at Amilia
At that move, Amilia got startled and let out a “WAH!” not a loud one but definitely a cute one.
“But that sword design sure does remind me of that previous hero..” Sam looked up at the ceiling in reminiscence.
“Previous hero?” Yuuji tilted his head quizzically at Sam’s words
“It’s a long story. No one knows where he went or even if he is alive at all.” Sam looked back at Yuuji and followed up. “Right, let’s talk business.” Sam clapped his hands as a gesture to end the talk at that.
“Little Amilia,” Sam looked over at Amilia who got a little surprised once again “The price for this one is about.. 1 million Eris.”
Yuuji and Amilia both gaped their mouths in surprise. For reference, a million Eris was as much as one’s salary for a whole year.
Sam looked over at the two stunned costumers and laughed really hard, his eyes were tearing. “And you two believed that!”
“It’s only worth 20 thousand Eris sorry sorry” Sam started waving his hand dismissively while Amilia’s face turned into a pout.
“Uncle Sam sure is mean!” Amilia said while still in a pout. She grabbed her purse and gave it to Sam. “That should do it.”
The two waved at Sam and left the shop. They started walking towards the walls for Yuuji to start leveling up.
